The Fog of War, 2024

The Fog of War (2024) is an interactive installation that explores the artist’s philosophical inquiry into violence through physical interaction. Rather than approaching violence solely as a physical act, the work considers it as a psychological, social, and structural phenomenon.

The artist focuses particularly on the spaces in which violence has been consumed as ‘entertainment’ throughout history—from the arenas of antiquity to the spectacle of the Colosseum—and examines how such mechanisms continue to circulate and reappear in different forms within contemporary society.

The work takes place within a dark space reminiscent of an old theatre. A low ambient sound designed like a resonant drone creates a sense of spatial pressure and tension.

As visitors move through the space, their movements are recorded in real time, causing the particles on the screen to break apart and gather again. Through this interaction, the boundaries between the act of violence and its object become increasingly unstable.

Rather than defining violence as a singular destructive act, the work proposes it as a complex phenomenon that emerges differently according to power, position, and environment. It asks the viewer to consider how invisible forms of violence—social pressure, the exercise of power, and environmental destruction—operate within everyday life.

In this sense, The Fog of War encompasses the artist’s earlier works concerned with the repetitive nature of violent imagery, while expanding the question towards communication itself: what might enable us to move beyond war, division, binary distinctions, and other structures of separation? The work suggests that peaceful communication, like language, may become possible through learning and experience.

<전장의 안개 The Fog of War>(2024)는
